It is mandatory for all residents of Seychelles to hold a valid National Identity Card. It serves as a proof of identity and used when conducting any official transaction.

A National Identity Card will be issued to citizens of Seychelles who are ordinarily residents in Seychelles for a continuous period exceeding three months.

Foreign workers and their dependents (as stated on their permit) are eligible to apply for a National Identity Card.

The validity of the National Identity Card for foreigners is for the duration of the person's relevant permit.

A Seychellois citizen is required to provide below documents when applying for a National Identity Card:

  • Birth certificate
  • Certificate of registration or Naturalization where applicable

Foreign workers are required to provide below documents when applying for a National Identity Card

  • Passport
  • Relevant permit i.e. GOP / Dependent permit / Residence permit / Student's permit or ITZ permit.

In case you lose your identity card, you will need to present a police report when applying for its replacement.

In the case of disfigured ID card, the application must be accompanied by the old ID card.

Replacement of National Identity Card is SCR150/- for Seychellois and SCR300/- for Foreigners.

If you have changed your name, you must notify the Principal Chief Officer of the Civil Status within 60 days of the change. The application for a new card must be accompanied by the old card and a copy of the authorization of change of name issued by the Civil Status office.

A new ID card in this case is SCR150/.

The identity card must be returned to the social security or the ID card office in the case of:

  • A death; or 
  • A foreigner leaving the country

Delivery/Collection of NIN card

If an applicant is collecting his/her NIN card, he/she should show some form of identification.

A person collecting the NIN card on behalf of the applicant should bring the following documents;
  • A signed authorization letter from the applicant
  • Copy of any form of identification of the applicant
  • NIN card or SeyID of the person doing collection

 

A Parent collecting NIN card on behalf of a minor child should provide a joint consent letter signed by both
 Parents along with both their NIN cards. 

In cases of separation, the single Parent should submit a letter stating so along with his/her NIN card / SeyID OR legal
 documentary proof of child’s custody where applicable.
