It is mandatory for all residents of Seychelles to hold a valid National Identity Card. It serves as a proof of identity and used when conducting any official transaction.

Seychellois Citizens:

A Seychellois citizen is required to provide below documents when applying for a National Identity Card for the first time:

  • Birth certificate
  • Certificate of registration or Naturalization where applicable

In case you lose your identity card, you will need to present a police report when applying for its replacement.

In the case of disfigured ID card, the application must be accompanied by the old ID card.

In case your ID card has expired please submit your expired ID card to an ID officer and recieve a new ID card. 

Note: If your physical card has expired so does your virtual ID card. To sign-up for your virtual ID you are required to have a valid NIN/ID card. 

Persons below the age of 16 years old do not have their photo taken.

Replacement of National Identity Card is SCR150 for Seychellois

If you have changed your name, you must notify the Principal Chief Officer of the Civil Status within 60 days of the change. The application for a new card must be accompanied by the old card and a copy of the authorization of change of name issued by the Civil Status office.

For Foreign Nationals Residing in Seychelles

Foreign nationals are required to provide below documents when applying for a National Identity Card

  • Passport
  • Relevant permit i.e. GOP / Dependent permit / Residence permit / Student's permit or ITZ permit

The validity of the National Identity Card for foreigners is for the duration of the person's relevant permit.

Foreign workers and their dependents who are above the age of 16 years old (as stated on their permit) are eligible to apply for a National Identity Number and will recive an ID Letter.

Once enrolled they will be urged to sign-up for their virtual ID using the issued ID letter, permit and passport.

If the foreign national is below the age of 16 they will be issued a physical card with no photo.

Once your permit expires your virtual ID cad will also expire. The identity card must be returned to the social security or the ID card office in the case of:

  • A death; or 
  • A foreigner leaving the country

Delivery/Collection of NIN card

If an applicant is collecting his/her NIN card, he/she should show some form of identification.

A person collecting the NIN card on behalf of the applicant should bring the following documents;

  • A signed authorization letter from the applicant
  • Copy of any form of identification of the applicant
  • NIN card or SeyID of the person doing collection

A Parent collecting NIN card on behalf of a minor child should provide a joint consent letter signed by both
Parents along with both their NIN cards. 

In cases of separation, the single Parent should submit a letter stating so along with his/her NIN card / SeyID OR legal documentary proof of child’s custody where applicable.

Seychellois living overseas who wish to renew their Seychelles ID Card and their Virtual ID

Application Requirements

Seychellois nationals wishing to renew their ID card must ensure they have the following documents ready for submission:

  • Notarized Passport Photo: A recent passport-sized photo taken according to Seychelles passport photo requirements. The back of the photo must be notarized by a licensed notary public.
  • Expired ID Card: The applicant must submit their expired Seychelles ID card as part of the renewal process.
  • Letter to Chief Civil Status Officer (CCSO): A formal letter requesting the renewal of the ID card, including the applicant’s email address and contact number

Submission Procedure

Step 1: Prepare Your Documents

  • Gather the notarized passport photo, expired ID card, and a letter addressed to the Chief Civil Status Officer (CCSO).

Step 2: Draft the Request Letter

  • Write a clear and concise letter to the CCSO, stating your intent to renew your ID card. The letter must include:
    • A request for ID renewal.
    • Your full name.
    • Your current address.
    • Your contact and email information.
    • Any other relevant details supporting your application.

Step 3: Mail Your Application

Mail the notarized photo, expired ID card, and the request letter to the following address:

 Processing by ID Section Staff

  • Document Verification: Upon receiving the application, the ID Section staff will verify the applicant’s eligibility for ID renewal.
  • ID Renewal: If all documents meet the requirements, the staff will proceed to renew the ID card.

 Notification

  • Email Confirmation: Once the renewal process is complete, an email will be sent to the applicant containing an attached ID letter confirming the ID renewal.

 Obtain Seychelles Virtual ID Card

Step 1: Download the SeyID Application

  • Once the ID renewal letter is received via email, the applicant can download the SeyID app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Step 2: Complete the eKYC Process

  • Follow the in-app instructions to complete the eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) process to verify your identity.

Step 3: Access Your Virtual ID

Once the eKYC process is successfully completed, the applicant will have access to their Seychelles Virtual ID card within the SeyID application.
